Matt 5:20: “For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the Kingdom of Heaven.”
This is a strong statement. The requirement is so high. How could we become more righteous than the most religious and devout people? The following scriptures in the chapter explains how! When we obey God’s commandments from our heart and out of our love for God, it will meet God’s term! The scribes and Pharisees obeyed out of the fear of God. But God wants us to do everything out of love for HIM. We should obey God, not because we are afraid of God’s punishment, but because we want our God happy.
